Friend and supporter of Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust has started a counselling practice in Yeovil and has very kindly offered to donate 10% of her session fees to Ducks and Drakes. Please mention ‘Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust’ when you book your counselling session.
We would like to thank Ruth very much for her support. Ruth says about her work “I work in a way that empowers you to make life changes, using a broad range of therapeutic approaches and theories to help you do so. I aim to provide you with a safe, confidential, and supportive space. You are not only welcome to explore anything that you feel is problematic, but also anything that is going well for you- there is no topic that is out of bounds. I have experience with many client issues, and I have been offering bereavement counselling in my placement at a hospice for the last 18 months.” Find out more at https://www.ruthcartercounselling.com/ Ducks & Drakes Cancer Trust is super pleased to announce that DUCKFEST21 raised a total profit of £9,450.00!!
The money raised will help towards supporting young bowel cancer patients in Dorset. We would like to thank everyone for attending and donating so generously and thank you to our sponsors and volunteers for helping make it the best DUCKFEST yet!! We all had an amazing time and can't wait for DUCKFEST22! SAVE THE DATE FOR DUCKFEST22 - 5 & 6 August 2022 Ducks & Drakes have donated £5,000 to support the Fortuneswell Clinical Reflexology (CR) Service for cancer patients attending DCHFT and Robert White Centre. A Clinical Reflexology (CR) Service was introduced to DCHFT cancer patients in 2014 the aim being to enhance the cancer patient experience. Funded by Fortuneswell Cancer Trust the service was managed and delivered by self-employed Complementary Practitioner and Clinical Reflexologist Abbigail Langstone-Wring. The service has grown in response to demand and now operates Mon-Fri with the team of Abbigail, Lorna Spicer and Jane Cruickshank at 3 sites including the Robert White Centre. Patients attending DCHFT for cancer treatment can access the CR service free of charge. 6,428 patient data has provided evidence of the deeply relaxing therapeutic and physically beneficial effects of CR. A recent NHS DCHFT Award Winning Clinical Audit of Clinical Reflexology Service Provision ( reg 4923) found that a trial of CR delivery from Aug-Dec 2019 to Robert White RW Radiotherapy patients provided 162 patient data. Radiotherapy patient feedback reported a drop in stress and anxiety levels and patients perceived levels of pain following CR treatment. These encouraging outcomes support a recommendation that a regular and sustained CR service be supplied to RW radiotherapy patients. "Supporting our patients through their cancer treatment, not only physically, but also emotionally, is a central part of our role at Robert White Radiotherapy Centre. We are so delighted to be able to expand access to complementary therapy for our patients, which was made possible by the generous donation from Ducks and Drakes. Complementary therapies such a reflexology can make a big difference for patients dealing with the stress and emotional effects of cancer treatment. This service has been highly popular with our patients, giving them some time to relax and de-stress during their course of treatment. The Fortuneswell Clinical Reflexology Team offer a fantastic service and we look forward to working with them for the benefit of our patients into the future." John Payne | Operational Manager – Radiotherapy Treatment "A big THANK YOU to the Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust committee for their most generous donation. This will be used to increase Clinical Reflexology treatment sessions for cancer patients at Dorset County Hospital." Thank you to all our supporters who have generously donated to Ducks & Drakes to enable us to continue our work supporting cancer patients and services in the local area.
Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust, is delighted to announce a fundraising partnership with C.J. Cox, a 40-year-old family-run business based in Dorset. The company provides farmers and contractors with top quality agricultural products and first-class service. The company is a certified dealer of Valtra Tractors.
C.J. Cox and Valtra are donating £100 from every new tractor sale to Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust for the next year and promoted the initiative at the recent Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show. C.J. Cox owners, Chris & Val Cox say “We are really pleased to be able to support Ducks & Drakes, which is a local charity very close to our hearts. We hope to raise some much-needed funds to help them continue their invaluable work supporting young bowel cancer patients and raising awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer.” Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust was founded in 2012 to increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer, especially in young people. The Trust also raises funds to financially support bowel cancer patients and their families and local cancer services. Nettie Drake, co-founder of Ducks and Drakes says “This is a brilliant initiative, and we are so grateful to C.J. Cox and Valtra for their generosity in supporting the Trust in this novel way. We are based in the heart of the rural community and farming is a way of life for so many of our supporters. Hopefully, they will buy lots of new tractors!” SWIM CHALLENGE…… on the 11th September 2021, I will be fundraising for an amazing grassroots charity, the Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust. My challenge is to complete a tough 5km swim on the River Adur to Shoreham-by-Sea. The route will involve negotiating the sandbanks & bridges in open water - hopefully I will not run aground! This will be the furthest open water distance I have done to date which is an amazing feat for myself but made all the more meaningful knowing that it could be raising money for such a brilliant cause.
This charity is close to my heart as it has supported a dear friend of mine, Amy, who has been battling cancer for several years. If would like to know more about Amy's story her gofundme page is here I know that every little helps with this small charity, so any donations tiny or large make an enormous difference and would be greatly appreciated by me, everyone who works there and every person they help! Fingers crossed it all goes swimmingly!!!" Please support Yasmin by donating via her Justgiving page Our dear friend and supporter, Polly Perrett, is hiring beautiful hats from her art deco style shepherds hut to raise money for Ducks & Drakes Cancer Trust.

"This June will be our wonderful Daddy's 1st Anniversary since he left us 👼 My amazing little brother has taken our loss and literally ran with it 🏃♂️ He started off 2021 with the aim of running to help with his grief then decided to challenge himself to run a marathon for the first time, but hes now decided to go above and beyond a run 4 marathons in 4 weeks, to raise money in aid of Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust, but also spread awareness when bowel cancer is caught early enough lives can be saved and time with loved ones can be massively increased." An update from Yeovil Hospital Charity – thank you to all our supporters for helping us support this incredible new build…
"We are now approaching £1,650,000 in the bank so we are closing in on the £2 million target! Based on this fundraising progress, we have now been able to give the green light to the hospital to get on and start building as soon as they can. Obviously with this pesky virus around, it might not be all smooth sailing but we anticipate having the new unit ready by the end of 2021. COVID-19 is really dangerous for many of our cancer patients, so it is now more important than ever to get this unit done as it will help us to keep cancer patients away from other patients." Thank you to all our friends and supporters for your continuing support of Ducks & Drakes Cancer Trust. It’s been a difficult year for everyone and although the charity has had no fundraising events this year we’ve been continuing to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer via our website and social media. Generous donations from individuals will be used to support young bowel cancer patients in Dorset. We sincerely hope that we will be able to get up and running again in 2021 with our popular events such as DuckFest, the clay shoot and cricket tournament, which will hopefully be bigger and better than ever! We all wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year! |
