Donations made in 2019, thanks to all our amazing supporters!

Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust are very pleased to have been able to help support the following organisations in 2019, thanks to the incredible support and generosity of its supporters and donors who help to organise events and raise fund throughout the year.
 
£5,000 was donated to the Fortuneswell Unit at Dorset County Hospital. The donation is being put towards the fund to improve the chemotherapy unit, which has a fund target of £850,000. Simon Pearson, Head of DCH Charity stated, "We are especially grateful for this wonderful support from Ducks & Drakes. Their continued support in helping to enhance cancer services at DCH is greatly valued."

Fortuneswell Unit at Dorset County Hospital

£11,400 was donated to the Radiotherapy Unit at Dorset County Hospital.  Simon Pearson, Head of DCH Charity stated, “We would like to say a very big thank you to Ducks & Drakes Cancer Trust. As one of the main supporters of DCH Cancer Appeal, Ducks & Drakes contributed significant funding to the building of the Robert White Centre. It is now tremendous that their commitment continues through this generous support, which will benefit cancer patients in the new Radiotherapy unit. They are a spirited group of fundraisers and valued friends of the hospital."
 
Since 2010, the Trust has donated a total of £ 115,450 to the Dorset County Hospital as part of its aim to help improve the lives of cancer patients in Dorset, in either the main hospital or the Robert White Centre.

Radiotherapy Unit at Dorset County Hospital

£5,000 was donated to Mosaic, a locally based charity, which supports bereaved children.
 
Margaret Hannibal CEO of Mosaic says “On behalf of everyone at Mosaic I would like to thank the Ducks & Drakes for their wonderful support this year. The donation of £5,000 has been used to provide training to schools and agencies throughout Dorset, giving their staff the confidence and skills to work with bereaved children in their care. The training covers all areas of support including theory and creative ways of working and courses cover all age groups form under 5s to teenagers.
 
Our aim is to train at least one member of staff in every school in Dorset, so support is available when a child experiences a death of a loved one. The donation has really made a difference to bereaved children in Dorset – thank you”

A total of £6,500 was donated to the Weldmar Hospice, which is based in Dorset. The hospice provides free specialist end of life care supporting patients and their families in the community, at home and in the hospice from the Dorset area.
 
£3,000 of the donation is being used for bedding and equipment and £3,540 is for training for people to work with bereaved children.

Weldmar Hospice

£5,000 was donated to Yeovil Hospital to go towards funding specialist cancer nurses. Cancer services at Yeovil Hospital are being stretched and the number of patients is going up significantly every year. The hospital launched an appeal to build a dedicated Breast Cancer Unit, which will improve services for Breast Cancer patients, but also free up space for thousands of other cancer patients, including bowel cancer patients.
 
James Kirton, Yeovil Hospital Charity says “The new unit will mean that patients can have all of their tests and consultations in one place, without having to get undressed in different places around the hospital. The new unit will also have a meeting room, which will be available to all cancer support groups in the area. The incredible donation we received from Ducks & Drakes has brought us much closer to our target and has given everyone involved in the appeal a real boost. Thank you to Ducks & Drakes and all of their wonderful supporters!”

Yeovil Hospital Nurses

Annette (Co-founder of Ducks & Drakes) says “This level of support throughout 2019 epitomises what we strive to do in supporting cancer patients and their families and cancer related organisations in Dorset. We are pleased that the funds raised through the tireless hard work and fundraising by our wonderful team of supporters and committee members can be put to such good use. Thank you for your continuing support”.
 
Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust was founded to help save lives and promote well-being by raising awareness of cancer and specifically Bowel Cancer in young people, aged 18 to 30 in Dorset and UK and to support Bowel Cancer patients and their families through the provision of specialist medical equipment and financial aid.  The Trust was founded in 2012 by Andrew Drake and his family following the bowel cancer diagnosis of Andrew, aged 24. The Trust is registered with the Charity Commission No: 1147024.

The Trust was founded to:

• Create awareness of bowel cancer in young people, aged 18 to 30 in Dorset and the UK
• To support bowel cancer patients and their families through the provision of specialist equipment and financial aid
• To fund specialist nurses in Dorset County Hospital, specifically in the Colorectal Department and financially support Dorset County Hospital's new cancer unit
• To help financially support local cancer related organisations
